Both of us faced unexpected challenges and remembered the same important lesson. Pushing through the hard times, eventually they will give way to a new chapter in our lives.

 

 Debbie – I turned the car in the opposite direction.  There was no time to pause, there was only time to do.

 

In 2016, my mother died and my husband was in the hospital.  I received a phone call to come to another hospital immediately.  My sister was in ICU and not expected to live.  I was the primary caregiver to both my mother and sister. It was an emotional rollercoaster, but I knew soon the ride would end and I would be onto whatever life gave me next.

 

There is always an endless number of things we would like to accomplish with the limited time we have in a day. I learned to just do them and not think about it. I have been through so much throughout my life: 20+ years in communications, two children, and a real estate career I built from scratch that outlasted the recession (I have been a REALTOR® since 1995). At some point, I realized what my oldest sister always told me was true, “This too shall pass.”

 

Every season of our life ends to be replaced by another. Beyond just our changing lives, there is a reason for everything – even if we do not see it at the time. When my mother passed, it was unbelievably difficult, but through it I learned to connect with others on a new level, especially those facing the challenges of seniors. I know when things get challenging it is because life is trying to teach me something, so I stop overthinking and start paying attention.

 

When facing those trying times, you have two options: freeze up in thought or just go into do mode. I will always choose the latter and continue to see what surprises life has in store for me. One of the best surprises was welcoming my daughter, Megan, into real estate and building our team together. 

 Megan – Finding out the career I spent the last four years working toward was a not a good fit, I did not know what to do next. Through giving up my dream of a big city fashion career, I discovered something far greater.

 

Family has always been a priority in my life. My parents have always been there and encouraged me to follow my passion. I did that up until the point I realized my passion would come at the cost of my lifelong goal – having a family of my own.

 

My mother inspired me from a young age as I watched her grow a successful real estate business from the ground up. My father joined the team along the way, and when I wondered what to do next, real estate became the clear choice. I joined the team in 2013 and quickly found being a REALTOR® fulfilled my passion for working with others and design. Then in 2021, my husband and I had our daughter.

 

Becoming a mother changed everything for me, and it was a tough adjustment even though it was what I wanted. That first year was the hardest, but my daughter remains one of the happiest, most loving people I have ever known. Through her, I saw that even in the most stressful times, something bright can shine through.

 

 My mother taught me that everything happens for a reason, even if you do not know it yet. Eventually, you will come out the other side and learn what you needed to know.
